So, who says, Value does not work? The Strategy below is free and accessible via my research group in P123:

The key to getting value to work —> avoid value traps, for that look out forward (e.g. instead of saying P/E this year, use P / E next year etc.). + avoid Price to Book (it underestimates intangibles!). Analyze the Ranking system for more insights.
The strategy is also a good example to not start from scratch if you build in P123. I simply copied the Ranking System “Small and Micro Cap Focus” and adapted it to the idea of “Forward Value”. That took me 2h. Building something like that from scratch would take days, if not weeks. If you build from scratch, you compete against Quants who are doing this for 20 Years, the road to success (for beginners): use out of the box models (ranking systems) from P123 and build on top of them. And be careful with buy and sell rules (to many, to restrictive ones —> they tend do overfit), let the ranking system (most robust part of a portfolio strategy in general) do the heavy lifting!
